Mathieu Karsenti

Mathieu Karsenti is an award-winning composer and multidisciplinary artist whose work explores the relationship between sound, image and perception.

Working across film, television, concert music and visual art, he creates immersive artistic worlds that blend contemporary classical, ambient and cinematic influences. Drawing inspiration from synesthetic perception and his practice as a visual artist, Karsenti approaches each project as a dialogue between sound, imagery and concept. His work is characterised by atmosphere, nuance and emotional depth, inviting audiences into spaces that are at once intimate, expansive and deeply evocative.

Alongside his independent artistic practice, Karsenti has built an extensive career composing for film, television and stage. His music has been featured internationally on platforms and networks including Netflix, BBC, Channel 4, Bravo and Sky, with credits spanning feature films, documentaries, television productions and dance. Working as a composer, arranger, producer and multi-instrumentalist, he has collaborated with production companies, filmmakers and artists across a broad range of disciplines.

Born into a multicultural environment shaped by French, North African and British influences, Karsenti developed an early fascination with music, teaching himself guitar, songwriting and recording techniques before moving into composition and production. His musical language draws on a wide spectrum of influences, from Debussy, Ravel and J.S. Bach to jazz, soul, world music and contemporary classical traditions.

His artistic practice extends beyond music into painting and visual art, where similar themes of memory, transformation, colour and perception continue to inform his work. Whether composing for the concert hall, the screen or the gallery space, he seeks to create experiences that blur the boundaries between disciplines and invite multiple ways of seeing and hearing.

Karsenti is a recipient of BAFTA Crew, the John Brabourne Award and the London Symphony Orchestra’s Soundhub programme. He has undertaken further studies in composition, orchestration and film scoring through Berklee College of Music and the Hollywood Music Workshop in Vienna. His independent releases have received widespread critical acclaim and are archived by the British Library’s Sound Archive.
